Upload your house writing style once, and the assistant reflects it across supported AI features so you don't correct tone and wording by hand.
Before you begin
- Organization-level guide: You need the document manager role.
- Project-level guide: You need admin access on that project.
- Have your style guide ready as a document or pasted text.
What this is
AutogenAI's style guide feature lets your organization upload a house style guide once and have it apply automatically across AI-generated content, without any extra step from writers. Instead of one-off tone adjustments or per-client customizations, the guide is distilled into structured guidance and carried into 15 AI completions.
The feature works at two levels. An organization-level guide applies by default across every project. A project-level guide can be set on top of that for situations where a specific client or tender requires a different format or tone, without affecting any other project. Where both exist, the project guide takes precedence on any point of conflict, and the organization rules continue to apply everywhere else.
How it works
The style guide feature distills your uploaded content into structured language and tone guidance. That guidance is then automatically included in the system message for every covered AI completion. Writers do not need to take any additional step: every generation draws on the guide in the background from the moment it is saved.
An org-level change takes effect immediately for every user in every project, with no staged rollout and no separate publish step.
Steps to set it up
Set up an organization-level style guide
- Go to Settings → Style Guides.
- Upload your style guide or paste the text.
- Wait while the platform processes the guide. You'll see a loading spinner. Don't navigate away until it finishes. Larger documents take longer.
- The guide is live as soon as processing completes. There is no publish step.
Set up a project-level style guide
- Open Project Admin for the project.
- Upload or paste the project's style guide.
- Wait for processing to finish.
How style guides apply
- An organization-level guide applies to every project, for every user, right away.
- A project-level guide applies on top of the organization-level guide. Where they conflict, the project guide wins.
- Your guide is localized automatically to each user's language (5 languages supported).
- Style guides apply to:
- Research assistant
- Ask AI
- Rephrase
- Summarize
- Improve grammar
- For example
- We will
- Expand
- Explain how
- Add case study
- Add statistics
- the first draft questions flow
- PPTX export
- Style guides don't apply to free-text custom prompts, workflow and strategic analysis commands (such as capture plans, win themes, and competitor analysis), or structured extraction commands.
How to refine text using your style guide
Beyond automatic application, writers have two ways to call the style guide deliberately on a specific piece of text.
1. Using the assistant
Open the assistant panel within your document and ask it to apply your style guide to the selected text or section. For example:
"Apply our style guide to this document" or "Rewrite this section using the style guide configured in this project."
The assistant pulls in your distilled style guide and uses it when editing. This performs more consistently than a one-shot editor transformation, and is the recommended method for focused, style-led refinement of a specific passage.
2. Using the tone of voice button
The tone of voice button remains available for quick, in-line style transformations on a selected block of text. Both the assistant and the tone of voice button draw on the same underlying style guide, so the result is consistent whichever route you use.
Good to know
- Style guides capture only language and tone. They ignore fonts, colors, logos, and layout.
- On first use the style guide is upload only (not currently able to free type). You can edit once the style guide has been distilled.
- AutogenAI's own baseline writing standards stay in place, so a guide may not override every default.
- Changes affect real work immediately, so review your guide before uploading.
Remove a style guide
- A document manager (organization level) or project admin (project level) deletes the guide in the app.
- The change takes effect immediately.
Troubleshooting
- Output quality dropped after I uploaded a guide: Delete the guide and try a clearer, more specific version.
- My colors and logo aren't showing: Style guides capture language and tone only.
- Nothing changed in my output: Check that the feature you used is on the supported list in How style guides apply.
- Upload is taking a long time: Larger documents take longer. Wait for the spinner to finish.
