The knowledge hub is where the organization's knowledge lives in AutogenAI.
The knowledge hub is your organization's collection of knowledge in AutogenAI. It's the material you draw on again and again across your projects, the research assistant, and your private workspaces.
What can I access from the knowledge hub?
- Native AutogenAI libraries
- SharePoint-synced libraries
- Datasets
- Saved prompts
Think of it as the single place that holds everything you want to reuse, so you're not re-uploading the same reference material every time you start something new.
Who can add to it?
- To create a library, you need to be a document manager.
- To contribute to an existing library, you need to be a document manager, or have been given contributor or admin access by the library's owner.
Library permissions in the knowledge hub
The AutogenAI library lets you create multiple libraries with different access controls, so documents stay segregated and secure across your organization. Only authorized users can view, upload, or manage documents in a given library, based on the role they're assigned.
Roles at a glance
| Role | Capabilities |
|---|---|
| Document manager | Can create new libraries. This is a separate, org-level permission that sits on top of the roles below. |
| Viewer | Can view all documents in the library group. |
| Contributor | Everything a viewer can do, plus upload documents. |
| Admin | Everything a contributor can do, plus add users, rename the library, manage member permissions, move/delete documents, and delete the library. |
Users can belong to more than one library group at a time - for example, someone working across the UK and Healthcare teams can hold access to both libraries. Library AI only draws on documents the requesting user actually has access to.
What each role can do
| Action | Admin | Contributor | Viewer | Public Library Member | Organizational Library |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rename file/folder | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ | ✅ (Document manager only) |
| Upload file/folder | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ | ✅ (Document manager only) |
| Move file/folder | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ | ✅ (Document manager only) |
| Delete file/folder | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ | ✅ (Document manager only) |
| Manage members | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ | — |
| Delete library | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ | — |
| Rename library | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ | — |
| Add a new library | ✅ (Document manager only) | ✅ (Document manager only) | ✅ (Document manager only) | ✅ (Document manager only) | — |
Note: "Add a new library" depends entirely on whether the user holds the document manager flag — it doesn't matter what their admin/contributor/viewer role is.

- Use the search bar to find documents; results appear below after clicking the search arrow.
- Navigate between folders using the menu bar on the left.
What's available vs what I actually use?
The knowledge hub is what's available to draw on. It isn't automatically fed into everything you do — each time you use AI, you choose which of it to use for that specific task. That selection is handled by source providers.
Important notes
- No recycling bin: Deleted files or folders are permanently removed from the library. If you need them back, you'll have to re-upload.
- The creator of each library is tracked in the backend. If you need to retrieve this information, contact support@autogenai.com.
