AutogenAI's Editor supports real-time collaboration and threaded comments, so proposal teams, reviewers, and subject-matter experts can work on and give feedback on a document in one place — without exporting, emailing, or re-importing drafts.
This article covers two related features:
- Collaborative Editor – multiple users editing the same document at the same time
- Comments in Editor – threaded, resolvable comments with @mentions
Collaborative Editor
The Collaborative Editor allows multiple users to work in the same document simultaneously. The shared editor pane updates in real time as changes are made, so teams no longer need to pass a single document back and forth or merge separate versions.
Note: Each user still has their own independent right-side panel (e.g. Review, Ask AI) — this doesn't sync between collaborators. Only the main document content in the Editor pane is shared.
Comments in the Editor
Adding a comment
There are two ways to leave a comment:
- Comment on specific text – Highlight the relevant text in the Editor, then select + Comment from the floating in-line menu. The highlighted text is quoted at the top of the comment thread so others can see what it refers to.
- General document comment – Use the + Add button in the comments panel and enter your note in the "Leave feedback or notes about the whole document…" field. This isn't tied to a specific piece of text.
Replying to and resolving comments
- Comments support threaded replies, so a conversation can happen directly against a piece of feedback.
- Once feedback has been addressed, click Resolve on the thread. Resolved comments are hidden from view by default (they aren't deleted, so the history can still be found if needed).
- Comments can also be liked or deleted.
@Mentions (tagging)
You can tag a colleague directly in a comment using @[name]. The tagged user receives an email notification so they know they've been asked for input or action, without needing to be actively viewing the document.
Reviewer license
There is a dedicated Reviewer license type designed for subject-matter experts, legal, and compliance reviewers who only need to give feedback rather than full platform access. Reviewers can:
- Add comments linked to specific text, or general comments
- Run all review criteria
- Mark their review as complete
Users with Editor, Document Manager, and/or License Manager license types can also be assigned to a proposal as Admin, Contributor, Reviewer, or Viewer — but a user with only a Reviewer license can only be assigned as a Reviewer.
Known limitations
- No direct visual link between a comment and its location in the text. Comments show the quoted text at the top of the thread, but there's currently no highlighting in the document itself, and no "jump to" navigation — reviewers/writers typically need to use Ctrl/Cmd+F to locate the referenced text. A "Visual Context Highlighting" improvement to address this is on the roadmap but not yet released.
- Tracked Changes is not yet available. Reviewers can currently only leave comments — they cannot make direct suggested edits for a writer to accept/reject. This is a planned enhancement.
Enabling these features
Collaborative Editor and Comments are controlled by separate feature flags and are enabled per organization/environment. If you don't see these features and would like them turned on, contact your Customer Success Manager or Support.
FAQ
Can I tag someone who isn't part of the project?
Tagging is intended for project collaborators — reach out to Support if you hit an issue mentioning someone with document access.
Will I be notified if someone comments on my document?
Yes, if you're @mentioned directly you'll receive an email notification. General comments are visible in the comments panel but don't trigger a notification unless you're tagged.
Can I see who resolved a comment?
Resolved comments are hidden from the default view but remain part of the document's comment history.
